PGS Committee

Philosophy Graduate Studies Committee (PGSC)

The Philosophy Graduate Studies Committee is a Faculty committee which meets routinely twice a term on Thursdays of First and Sixth Weeks, with an additional meeting in Twelfth Week of Trinity Term. The Director of Graduate Studies chairs the PGSC and is in overall charge of the graduate courses in Philosophy. The Graduate Studies Officer is the committee’s secretary. The PGSC deals with:

  • the admission of graduate students;
  • applications for transfer of status;
  • the appointment of supervisors and D.Phil examiners;
  • all other matters involving graduate students.

The PGSC also reviews supervisors’ termly reports on graduate students, and the Director of Graduate Studies may contact students whose progress gives the committee cause for concern. Business for the committee should be sent to the Graduate Studies Officer at the Philosophy Centre at least two weeks before the meeting at which it will be taken.
