The Faculty offers its congratulations to Ursula Coope, Professor of Ancient Philosophy, who is one of ten Oxford academics named as Fellow of the British Academy this year. The Fellowship is awarded to UK-based scholars with outstanding achievements and distinction in the humanities or social sciences.
Ursula Coope is the author of the recent publication, Freedom and Responsibility in Neoplatonist Thought (OUP 2020), and also Time for Aristotle (OUP 2005). She has written articles on Aristotle's accounts of change, agency and the infinite, and on ancient discussions of the importance of thinking for oneself. She is especially interested in questions about the relations between ancient metaphysics and ancient ethics.
