Brad Hooker (Reading) 'The Definition of Morality' to be held in the Lecture Room, 10 Merton Street, Oxford - Seminars in Moral Philosophy webpage
Which beliefs and attitudes are moral ones? Presumably, in trying to give a correct account of morality, one aims to give a correct account of correct moral beliefs and attitudes. A lot of attention, of course, has focused on the question of which moral beliefs and attitudes are correct, but much of that attention bypasses the difficult question of which beliefs and attitudes are moral ones. This short and quite tentative paper surveys attempts to define morality in terms of the content of moral beliefs or attitudes, to define morality in terms of the form of moral beliefs or attitudes, and to define morality in terms of certain reactive attitudes.
