| Description | Jonathan Way (Stirling) "Transmission and the Wrong Kind of Reason" to be held in the Lecture Room, 10 Merton Street, Oxford - Seminars in Moral Philosophy webpage Abstract: This paper presents a new argument for skepticism about pragmatic reasons for belief, desire, intention, and the emotions. The argument turns on the transmission of reasons: the familiar fact that there is often reason for one action or attitude because there is reason for another. I argue that apparent pragmatic reasons transmit in a different way to standard reasons for attitudes, and that this fact is best explained by the skeptical hypothesis. |
