Event Name Seminars in Moral Philosophy Week 6 HT12
Start Date 20th Feb 2012 4:30pm
End Date 20th Feb 2012 6:30pm
Duration 2 hours
Description

Talk by Simon Blackburn (Cambridge) ‘Ways of Misunderstanding Hume’ to be held in the Lecture Room at the Philosophy Centre, 10 Merton Street.

Abstract

I believe that even serious Hume scholars do not properly defend several aspects of his moral philosophy. In this paper I argue that both his explanatory project of describing the springs of action and motivation, and his conception of moral reasoning have been distorted by many commentators, and need to be freed from a variety of common misunderstandings.

All philosophers are welcome to attend, and also to join the speaker for drinks after the talk, and later for dinner.
