I specialize in ethical theory, political theory, and the history of philosophy, especially ancient Greek philosophy. My research to date has primarily concerned the good, flourishing life and the social and political conditions that enable people to live such lives. I am now expanding on this work to develop a general theory of flourishing that applies to human and non-human individuals and collectives, and applying this theory to the fields of environmental ethics and policy. I am also interested in metanormative theory, educational theory and policy, and the moral psychology of character, moral motivation, and reactive attitudes.
