The Faculty of Philosophy is delighted to welcome Professor Verity Harte as the George Eastman Visiting Professor 2025-26.

Verity Harte did her BA in Classics and MPhil and PhD in Philosophy at Cambridge. She held research fellowships at St. Edmund's College, Cambridge and at St Hilda's College, Oxford, was Lecturer, then Reader in Philosophy at King's College London, prior to joining Yale as a Professor of Philosophy and Classics in 2006. Since 2015, she has been the George A. Saden Professor of Philosophy and Classics at Yale. She has given the Whitehead Lectures in Philosophy at Harvard, the J.H. Gray Lectures in Classics at Cambridge, and the S.V. Keeling Memorial Lecture in Ancient Philosophy at University College London, among other honours. She is the author of Plato on Parts and Wholes: The Metaphysics of Structure (Oxford 2002), co-editor of Aristotle and the Stoics Reading Plato (with Mary Margaret McCabe, Robert Sharples, and Anne Sheppard), Politeia in Greek and Roman Philosophy (with Melissa Lane), and Rereading Ancient Philosophy (with Raphael Woolf), and author of numerous articles on various topics in ancient philosophy. She is presently completing a monograph on Plato's Philebus, to appear in Cambridge Studies in the Dialogues of Plato.
