Aesthetics Seminar (Monday - Week 3, MT23)

In this talk, I use ideas from Stanley Cavell's work on philosophy and film to illuminate the significance of Christopher Nolan's film Tenet. I begin by sketching a reading of Nolan's earlier film Inception as an original reinterpretation of the sceptical problematic; then I offer a reading of Tenet as inheriting that framework of ideas whilst simultaneously drawing on a Cavellian conception of a genre of Hollywood movies that he calls 'Melodramas of the Unknown Woman'.
