Víctor Durà-Vilà (Leeds): 'The Appreciative Demands of Challenging Art: Originality, Epistemic Gains and Moral Seriousness'
Works of art can challenge our appreciation for a wide variety of reasons. In this seminar, I will examine how the elucidation of the notion of originality and cognate terms can help us better understand these challenges, not least in cases in which the appreciative demands also touch upon difficulties in the epistemic and moral sphere. Some space will be devoted to considering how this project can, in turn, be useful regarding pedagogic efforts connected to the dissemination of challenging art.
