There are many questions to ask about moral judgement. Two such questions are: (i) How should we make moral judgements; and (ii) How do we make moral judgements? The Unified Theory of Moral Judgement (UTMJ) posits an ambitious and potentially revolutionary answer to the second question.

The literature is rife with theories that posit useful, but incomplete, pictures of how moral judgements are made. In this talk, based on my ongoing dissertation, I will walk through how UTMJ unifies elements of dual process theory, universal moral grammar, sentimentalism, rationalism, and social intuitionism into a more complete and elegant explanation of the psychology and neuroscience of moral judgement.
