Dr David Barnes: 'AI and the Military: Beyond Autonomous Weapons to Strategic Enterprise Transformation'
In "AI and the Military: Beyond Autonomous Weapons to Strategic Enterprise Transformation," we explore the expansive role of AI in military operations beyond the narrow scope of Lethal Autonomous Weapons Systems (AWS). This presentation delves into the broad applications of AI in enhancing warfighting capabilities, strategic decision-making, and organizational efficiency across various military functions. It emphasizes the importance of human-AI value alignment, particularly under the ethical and legal frameworks of the Laws of Armed Conflict (LOAC), and discusses the risks and challenges of integrating AI into high-stakes military environments. Drawing parallels with civilian industries and leveraging the U.S. Army's warfighting functions as a framework, the presentation navigates the potential for AI to revolutionize military strategy, planning, and execution while highlighting the imperative of cautious and ethical implementation.
We will run each seminar in a hybrid format, allowing audiences to join in-person or online. Please register here to reserve your space and find out more information about this seminar.
