Metaphysics of Consciousness Seminar (Monday - Week 1, HT21)

metaphysics of consciousness

Panpsychism is the view that consciousness is a fundamental and ubiquitous feature of the physical world. Robust value realism is the view that there are irreducible facts about value. Perhaps the biggest challenge for the robust value realist is how to account for our knowledge of irreducible value facts. In responding to this challenge, robust value realists tend to shy away from postulating a quasi-perceptual awareness relation between people are value facts. I will argue that, on the assumption of robust value realism, we in fact have strong evidence that there is a such a relation. I will go to argue that panpsychists can better accommodate this kind of relation than non-panpsychists.
