Moral Philosophy Seminar (Monday - Week 6, TT26)

moral philosophy

Abstract: Calls for epistemic humility are ubiquitous; seemingly everyone acknowledges the need for it.  This paper defends a non-epistemic idea of humility.  That is, it defends the existence of normative phenomena that does not involve epistemic content or processes, and yet that seemingly constitute a form of humility.  It involves seeing yourself as having a limited sphere of action; it is captured colloquially by the thought, “not my place.”  The paper then explores some connections between this idea and environmental ethics and the so-called rights of nature.

Registration: If you do not hold a university card, please contact the seminar convenor or admin@philosophy.ox.ac.uk at least two working days before a seminar to register your attendance.
