Abstract: To open this seminar on the 2024-25 Isaiah Berlin Lectures, three discussants will offer perspectives on the lectures from the standpoint of ancient Greek philosophy (Giuseppe Cumella), political theory (Elizabeth Frazer), and intellectual history (Avi Lifschitz). Melissa Lane will respond and the floor will then be open for questions and further discussion. Abstracts and video recordings of each of the lectures are being made available shortly after their delivery athttps://www.philosophy.ox.ac.uk/isaiah-berlin-lectures; copies of the handout from the final lecture (to be delivered on 3 December) will be made available at the seminar. All are welcome to this seminar discussion whether or not they have been able to attend all or any of the lectures.
