Julian Bacharach (Trinity College Dublin): 'On the Very Idea of a Temporal Perspective'
Abstract: In what sense, if any, does it seem us that we experience the world from a particular point in time? It has been suggested by a number of philosophers that a key contrast between our experience of time versus that of space is that perceptual experience (specifically visual experience) seems to present us with a region of space as experienced from a particular spatial location, whereas the corresponding claim is not true of time. In the talk I will offer my own gloss on these claims, and consider their significance for the idea that memory (specifically episodic memory) involves the re-creation of past temporal perspectives.
