Natasha Oughton: 'Starting from scratch: Why reconstruct quantum theory?'
There has been a recent increase in attempts to reconstruct quantum theory, or something relevantly similar, from physically meaningful principles. Stated aims of these attempts often include aiding or avoiding the need for interpretation, developing novel theories, allowing better explanations, and providing deeper understanding. In this (WIP) talk, I’ll review some of these aims and argue that the reconstruction program can meet some, but not all.
