Post-Kantian European Philosophy Seminar (Tuesday - Week 2, HT24)

Post-Kantian European Philosophy Seminar

Kant finds a way to maintain our freedom in the face of natural necessity. In doing so, he hopes to secure freedom and morality. But he also cuts freedom off from experience, which generates serious practical problems. In this talk, I talk through Kant's theory of freedom, and some of these practical problems. I argue that, in the end, we should depart from transcendental idealism, and move to bring freedom and experience closer together.
