Title: 'Some Skeptical Questions About Metaphysical Necessity'
Abstract:
There is room for an eminently sensible scepticism about metaphysical necessity. Such a scepticism has a pragmatic rationale. Why should we not simply abstain from metaphysical modalizing, and thereby avoid the theoretical costs of the associated commitments? I consider the problems associated with attempting to motivate modalizing that is properly metaphysical by appeal to connections with: objective probability, counterfactual reasoning and a distinctive style of explanation
