Title: 'Causal claims and the Ontology of Causation'
Abstract:
I provide arguments against a dominant account of causative verbs, according to which most causative verbs stand for a relation of causation. I also offer an alternative and unified account of different types of causative constructions, on which these construction introduce an event of causation. I conclude by looking at the ontological commitments of our ordinary causal talk: speakers presuppose that causation is an event of which causes and effects are parts.
