Philosophy of Mind Seminar (Friday - Week 7, TT23)

Philosophy of mind

It is a challenge to find an interpretation of the slogan ’there is no self’ that is neither too-obviously true nor too-obviously false.  In this talk I attempt to identify and to some extent assess two theses which meet this condition. I believe both to be influential (if inarticulate) in recent cognitive science. One is a thesis about the metaphysics of experience. The other is a kind of 'indirect realism' about the object of self-awareness.
