Ana-Maria Pascal
I have a twofold background, in Philosophy (PhD on Pragmatist Hermeneutics and ‘the End’ of Metaphysics, Cum laude, 2005) and International Business (MBA, 2006, distinction). I taught general philosophy and ethics at the University of Essex and Regent’s University London, before joining SCIO / Wycliffe Hall in Michaelmas Term 2022. At Regent’s, I was Reader in Philosophy and Public Ethics, and Director of Liberal Arts. I am currently Academic Director and Senior Tutor for visiting students at Wycliffe Hall and Director of Studies in Philosophy.

I offer tutorials and seminars in general philosophy, the philosophy of Kant, post-Kantian philosophy (especially phenomenology and existentialism), ethics, aesthetics, philosophy of religion, and women philosophers. I supervise research students on topics from my areas of specialisation – comparative philosophy, hermeneutics, post-Kantian philosophy, and the Patristic tradition.
I specialise in comparative metaphysics, post-Kantian philosophy, and public ethics. I also have a long-lasting interest in Patristics and hermeneutics. My current research focuses on apophatic thinking in multiple traditions, with a particular focus on early Christianity and Neo-Platonism v. early Hinduism, Buddhism, and Daoism. I am a contributor to a long-term international project on Comparative Metaphysics, which has entered its third year, bringing together more than a dozen researchers in comparative philosophy, religion, and ethics, from different traditions. I am also working on a paper on “the other” in phenomenology, West and East (especially the Kyoto School), and a monograph on exile and displacement.
