Moral Philosophy Seminar (Monday - Week 7, MT25)

moral philosophy

Abstract: This paper argues in favour of public policies supporting the work of artists on the ground that artists make significant contributions to our pursuit of well-being and social justice. Engagement with art dynamizes valuable psychological, and especially agential capacities - such as our powers to form, revise, and apply conceptions of the good and right - that are at the basis of our dignity or standing as bearers of rights. To the extent that they are important to making widespread access to art reasonably feasible, certain policies supporting that access are desirable and (at least) permissible.
