Abstract: A reexamination of the contractualist moral theory that I presented in “Contractualism and Utilitarianism” and in What We Owe to Each Other. I will discuss why a view of this kind is appealing, and consider some objections to the particular version that I have presented, with special reference to the role of the idea of “justifiability to a person.
