Jessica Leech (KCL): 'Transcendental arguments, modal knowledge, and explanation'
Abstract: In this paper I plan to explore some objections to transcendental arguments as discussed by Bob Stern and Mark Sacks. I offer a line of response on Kant’s behalf, drawing on Kant’s remarks about modality. But this response has an unsatisfactory whiff about it. To address this concern, I further draw on Sacks’ writings on objectivity and explanation. The upshot will be, I hope, that returning to the topic of transcendental arguments sheds new light on some more recent discussions about explanation.
