The Ockham Society (Thursday - Week 2, TT25)

Ockham Society

Abstract: Several amongst its most influential exegetes have presented Wittgenstein’s Tractatus as a radicalisation of several Fregean ideas concerning logic, meaning, and representation. But this is only half of the truth. In this talk, I will argue that the Tractatus exhibits a greater level of sensitivity to the tenacity and temptations of psychologism than has been appreciated by these commentators. I conclude by drawing connections between the reading offered, and Wittgenstein’s claim that he had written a work of with an ethical point.
